The Downrock Records Featured Music Video

About Me

As a Hip Hop head growing up, one of my favourite pass times was playing video games.  As I got older, I got into comic books as well.  If you talk to enough Hip Hop music creators, from the music-making side, to the writing, you're going to find that those tend to be a very prominent part of their creative inspiration.

With video games, a lot of times, the music was very plain and unmistakably, computer created.  We still found it inspirational as a lot of the beats from the early days of gaming have found their way to Hip Hop music.  The nostalgia factor alone has kept the creative spirit alive for many a beat-maker.  And a lot of times, songs are conceptualized around popular video games and characters.

Comic books are equally inspirational because of the character creation and the vibrant colours and designs that help visualize storytelling in a way no other kind of print media can duplicate.  A lot of people in Hip Hop have alter egos and personas heavily influenced by fandom culture themes from television shows and movies to books and other various forms of print and now, digital media.

I created The Phreshmode Lounge to showcase my love for gaming and other colourful imagination - type media and to help those outside of the spectrum of these wonder forms of art understand why they're important to creative types that they wouldn't initially have thought would be. a
